Mia and RJ were married on a sunny day overlooking the cliffs and beaches in Hawaii. Anna Kim Photography was there capturing every beautiful moment and they all share this wonderful time with La Bride today.
We are lucky enough to have the beautiful bride, Mia, takes us through their fabulous destination wedding, step by step.
“RJ and I met on Eharmony! Best decision ever. He was new to Eharmony, I was his first date. We met for drinks at Culver City Hotel. We had much in common and so much to talk about that drinks turned into dinner and dessert! We even held hands on the first date.”
I fell in love with my Hayley Paige dress from JLM Couture in West Hollywood. I loved the art deco beading and the sweetheart neckline. I wanted soft ivory tones to compliment my skin.
“My shoes were Badgley Mischka and you can’t go wrong as a bride with Badgley Mischka shoes! I wore my mother-in-law’s beautiful teardrop diamond earrings and bangle bracelet as ‘something borrowed’.”
“We always talked about having a destination wedding. And our wedding was the ultimate excuse for a fun vacation with our family and friends! We looked into Lake Tahoe (too close to LA) and Puerto Rico (hurricane season) but Maui just felt right and magical. It was important to us that our family and friends got to know each other so we planned a three day celebration on the island. We love the Spirit of Aloha and the Polynesian culture so we made sure to incorporate that as part of the experience as well.”
“And because our guests traveled from all over, we had a sign built to show the miles they traveled to get to Maui.”
Honestly, could you ask for a more perfect day than this one to get married!?
“We wanted to add personal touches to our wedding. It was important to us that we incorporate things we love. Everyone knows RJ is a huge fan of Star Wars, so we surprised him with R2D2 as our ring-bearer and cupcakes with Star Wars characters.”
“My bridesmaids wore dresses that most compliment their bodies, my only request was the shade of pink. It turned out to be a really lovely ensemble. Since we were getting married by the water, RJ and his groomsmen went with a nice tailored linen suit from Nordstroms.”
“We wanted our wedding to be timeless and romantic. I love the soft tones of blush and mint with gold accents. I wanted to be able to look back 20 years from now and feel like it was yesterday.”
“I also wanted to include my Korean heritage so we did a Korean Tea Ceremony for our family at the Four Seasons the day before. We also named our reception table names in Korean.”
“To all those starting their planning process, just make sure it is the wedding that YOU BOTH want. If you want a destination wedding, go for it! If you want to elope, do it! And while planning logistics and hammering out details can be intense and overwhelming, stop and remember, you’re getting married! It’s suppose to be the happiest first day as a married couple. Enjoy planning the wedding! On wedding day, it goes by so fast that you won’t see all the little details you were obsessed with, so don’t get caught up with what’s perfect and what’s not. Just be in the moment.”
Sound advice from one happy bride!
