Two Californians who bonded over their love of outdoors and travel adventures had a fairytale wedding of a lifetime in July 2015 in Lake Bled, Slovenia, brought to you by Ana Gregorič & Luka Brataševec from Ana Gregoric Photography. Be drawn into this mystique blues of the lake itself and the amazing foliage and trees of green that comes along with the surroundings of the lake!
Scott and Lily first met while working out at their company’s fitness center, specifically through a fitness competition. They were friends at first who enjoyed hiking and snowboarding with other mutual friends, which brought them closer and the soon quickly become the perfect companions for each other.
Scott and Lily both love to travel and wanted a destination wedding somewhere outdoors and scenic. They were kicking around the idea of somewhere in Europe. Scott decided Bled, Slovenia as their wedding destination when he saw on TV one year when one of the Los Angeles Kings (ice hockey) player brought back the Stanley Cup to his hometown in Slovenia. When Scott told Lily about Bled, she fell in love with the idea. The pictures seriously looked like something from a fairy tale and who can resist having a castle at their wedding??
Scott, the groom had this look of kindness and serenity that shadows the calm lake of Bled. Charles Xavier to a point, his features are bound to make a bride’s heart melt. All the luckier for Lily, who is now his bride!
Scott and Lily are both simple people when it came to the event planning so they hired an amazing coordinator, Petra Cuk to handle all the logistics. And everything just fell right into place. Scott artistically took the lead in handling almost all of the decisions, from the type and color of flowers, which dictated the wedding color and the color of Lily’s shoes, the cake (which had two cats as the toppers!), the appetizers, and the dinner course. Lily was so stoked about the location, she essentially just agreed with all of Scott’s decisions. Overall it was an incredibly stress-free experience for the both of them.
Contrasting blue shoes (all Scott’s idea) created a spark of boldness along with the mermaid wedding dress. The bouquet was a blend of clear white roses and similar shades of dreamy orchids. All thanks to Scott, a lovely combination of colors come together and creates this dramatic fairytale wedding.
Smoky makeup was applied along with bouncy voluminous curves to Lily’s hair. Draping around her shoulder was a simple veil with beautiful cuffed ends. The heart shaped neckline was further enhanced with a pearl necklace while a similar jewelry adorned her wrist.
You don’t need a large audience to get married. This holds true for them both. Hotel Toplice, Bled Slovenia was the chosen location for the ceremony. Here the marriage celebrant waited for them in the center, right in front of a golden frame painting. The white wallpaper in the room was matched with white furniture that speaks of Baroque glamour.
After exchanging vows and rings, they embraced joyfully. Walking out of the ceremony, they were greeted with white petals scattering the doorway. And Scott and Lily couldn’t look any happier with hands intertwined together.
Everyone brandishes their iPhone to catch a snapshot of the wedding rings together. Meanwhile, the guests and the newlyweds set of to the center of Lake Bled in a boat. With a stroke of fortune, they catch a Swan on its way too! Although from here on it rained, but it was perfect. The rain created a beautiful mist across the lake that it just looked so surreal. And because of the weather change, the wedding coordinator made lots of last minute changes which made the day full of fun surprises for Scott and Lily.
The day overall was so much fun for Scott and Lily. Scott still to this day also prides himself in carrying Lily in his arms up and back down the 90 steps on Bled Island. And Lily to this day still thinks about the amazing Slovenian wines they had at their wedding.
The misty and foggy surroundings coupled with the beautiful foliage and architecture makes these beautiful pictures they have taken come alive. As the sun shines through panels of glass in the building, a warm atmosphere builds and the kiss and embrace appears full of romance and love. Scott and Lily were all enthusiastic on their wedding day, and they joy and intimacy is shown through these pictures, all natural and beauty in the eyes of the beholder, us.
Although the horse and carriage ride from the ceremony location to the boat dock was switched to cars, Scott and Lily were surprised with bottling their own wine and with printing a marriage license on an old school printing press at Bled Castle. And their guests were surprised by having the chance to cut open the necks of champagne bottles with long swords.
The breathtaking scenery, the bottling monk and the Bled Castle all makes this wedding unique and is bound to etch a place in our minds seeking for inspirations. Before we part, Lily and Scott do have some tips for every bride to be out there!
“Families are always going to be very vocal about the wedding planning, but it’s key to remember that this day is going to be the most memorable for the both of you, and not everyone else. Don’t fret it being ‘perfect’ the day of the wedding because what you’ll really remember about this day is how happy you both were, how much fun you had, and how amazing you both looked! This includes if the weather is looking iffy, just like it did for us. Enjoy the day, enjoy each other.”
Thanks Lily and Scott for this amazing wedding to add into our list!
