What Is The Best Way Of Preparing My Skin So It Looks Radiant On My Wedding Day?
-A self-proclaimed product junkie with a weakness for glamour, Catherine Crump has just about every shade of red lipstick ever created – and that’s just in her personal stash!
While I always advise my brides to arrive on their big day with clean, moisturized faces as prep for me, the real prep can begin weeks or months in advance!
If you have skin issues you’d like to address, or if you just want a little extra boost, the lead-up to your wedding is a great time to hone a skincare routine or even develop a relationship with a facialist.
A good starter routine would be a good cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer – to be applied in that order, ideally morning and night. Additionally, you may want to include masks or spot treatments to handle specific problems – for instance, if I have a bride who is plagued with acne from time to time (which can be exacerbated by stress, and if there’s one thing that is consistent about wedding planning, it’s STRESS!), I always recommend the Mario Badescu Drying Cream or Drying Lotion – they are awesome and effective when applied to underground bumps or actual zits, respectively. Or if dry, flaky skin is your issue, there are tons of great masks and exfoliators to get you smooth and glowy – I love the Origins Drink Up Intensive moisture mask, or GlamGlow Glamour Mud to sort of scrub and glow.
If you do seek professional help, I’d always recommend giving yourself a good solid head start, because a change in routine can release all kinds of havoc onto your complexion. And, generally speaking, you want to be careful with any new stuff the day or two before the wedding – that goes for spray tans, manicures, and brow grooming too!
And my number one piece of advice has to be – don’t pick! If you do have an “uninvited wedding guest,” leave that pimple ALONE (or pop on your Mario Badescu the night before and then leave it alone). A good stylist can do a lot to camouflage a breakout, but there is not much we can do about about a pimple that’s open and healing!
