It’s a day most brides have been planning since they can remember and know exactly what they want from the flowers to their first dance song. With so many details decided already do you still need a wedding planner? Today we have Virginia wedding planner Angela Simpson with XOXO Wedding sand Events and she has some fantastic advice from planning her own wedding.
Q: Welcome Angela, thank you for taking the time to share a little about you. Tell us about your journey and how you got your start as a wedding planner. What fuels your passion for working in the wedding industry?
A: Thank you for having me! When planning my own wedding in 1998, I made a lot of poor decisions on planning and logistics – things I can never change. I never wanted any other bride to have the same regrets I experienced, so I decided to obtain my certification in bridal consulting. It was the best decision I’ve ever made as I absolutely love working with couples and their families! What fuels my passion is easy: the appreciation, love, and support from my clients as well as my friends keeps me in the game!
Q: With so much experience over the years from planning your own wedding to now what advice would you give a bride who is just beginning to plan a wedding?
A: First step: hire professionals right in each and every category! Remember, this is the most important day of your life and you get what you pay for. These pros are experts in their fields and they know what they are talking about. They will lead you, with the best of intentions, down the right path.
Q: What would you say to brides-to-be who are on the fence about hiring a wedding planner?
A: Even if you wish to plan your own wedding, having someone there to listen, give advice and help with overall logistics is the best money you can spend! And, having someone to tie up the loose ends and manage the final week and day-of is PRICELESS.
Q: How would you describe your style? And what trends have you seen popping up in weddings you are planning now?
A: Easy! I love anything pink and sparkly! Here on the East Coast, we are still seeing a lot of rustic mixed with shabby chic and/or industrial and mixed metals. Every wedding I have is unique in its own way, which I love as it shows the couple’s personalities and what’s most important to them.
Q: You have a lot to show for your 14 years of experience and planning. Do you have anything you’d like to do that you haven’t yet accomplished?
A: I keep joking that I should write a book telling stories about all the things I have seen in my days…..starting as a venue coordinator, moving along to the hotel industry, working alongside a caterer, partnering with another planner, working behind the scenes as a rental coordinator and now, having my very own business. It’s been real. It’s been interesting. It’s been fun! Oh the stories I could tell! Yep, I think I should write a book!
