Sharlene and Craig are longtime sweethearts. After years and years of love and companionship, they decided to take a step further to tie the knot on the 30th of July 2016 in Villa La Vedetta, Florence, Italy. Keeping it minimalistic and simple, they did not have a lot of fuss with getting what they want done as everything came naturally. Brought to you by Facibeni Fotografia, come discover the natural beauty of Florence and witness the love between this couple becoming one.
Craig and Sharlene first met while studying together in 2004. At only 19, Sharlene fell completely in love with Craig’s kind heart. Their relationship progressed as they slowly set up their future together, and after 8 years he proposed. They were on a holiday travelling through Europe, when one beautiful evening in Florence they stood on the Santa Trinita bridge, to the left a view of the Ponte Vecchio and to the right the sun setting over the Arno river.
Sharlene has always told Craig that sunset is the favourite part of the day as she loves watching the colours of the sky change. It was then he dropped to one knee, told her he loved her and asked her if she wants to return to Florence one day as husband and wife. With tears streaming down her face she said yes, never thinking almost exactly two years later they would return to their favourite city to become husband and wife.
Steven Khalil designed Sharlene’s simple sweetheart neckline dress while bridesmaids were in deep blue. Sharlene has always loved Steven Khalil’s designs. It was such an easy decision once she tried that beautiful gown on. Naturally flowing off at her hips, the fit, the silk and the lace couldn’t compare to anything else she’d seen! As with her husband, it was love at first sight!
Sharlene and Craig had a total one tracked mind on what they are looking for. They wanted something simple and elegant with a beautiful view, something classic that wouldn’t date. From the immaculate gardens where they held the ceremony, to the reception on the terrace under the Tuscan sun, and watching the city light up as they ate under the stars made this wedding perfect. Staying true to their simple theme, their decorations were not that elaborate. White flowers add some feminine graceful notes with touches of gold to reflect the history of this beautiful city, without detracting from the view.
Upon the first sight of Villa La Vedetta, Sharlene and Craig knew they had made the right decision. It was the most beautiful property they had ever laid eyes on. It beautifully fits their grand but elegant theme and the view of the city was breathtaking.
As Craig and Sharlene were dancing, the sun was setting, and she remembered saying to him after looking around “I cannot believe this is our wedding!” The scenery was so beautiful, and it was everything Sharlene ever dreamed of. Although many brides would say they wished something could be better, Sharlene had absolutely no regrets! As cliché as that sounds, it was truly the most perfect day from start to finish.
There could not be a more beautiful day imagined, with 40 of their nearest and dearest travelling from Melbourne, Australia to share the most magical experience of their lives. It was simplicity meeting grandeur combining our decoration with the villa and views. After 10 years they have shared together, with their love for family, friends, travel, and our engagement in Florence, this day encapsulated everything they ever wanted, needed or dreamed possible. The original plan was to get married in their home town Melbourne, Australia with a guest list of 120 people. With the venue booked, and plans unfolding, her Grandmother sadly lost her battle to cancer 9 months prior to their wedding date. With heavy hearts, they continued with the preparations, never anticipating losing her Grandfather 3 months later. With a giant void in her life, Sharlene thinks this great loss was enough for them to reassess what they truly believed their wedding should be. The decision was made to cut their losses and stay true to themselves, to travel to a beautiful destination with their closest friends and family, and what place would be more meaningful than Florence.
Thanks Sharlene and Craig for the amazing wedding that stays with its classical beauty in our hearts. A little tip from Sharlene : don’t stress over the small things, the day will always turn out the way it is meant to, so enjoy every minute, it goes so fast!
