Q: Hi Cheyu, we’re very happy to be interviewing you today. Your works are excellent, would you care to introduce some of your favourite photography topics to us or perhaps a styles that you’re good at?
A: Personally I really like photographs with a dream-like atmosphere, especially when it comes to photographs involving the bridal veil. There are no do overs in a wedding, so it is important to notice images that are interesting, details that unnoticed by couples, I really like those too. Before the ceremony, preparation details are my main source of documentation, because every detail represent the unique story that a couple has together. Actually in most instances, photography has nothing to do with a particular style, technique, topic or editing, it’s a kind of responsibility, an urge for creativity, and a passion for photography.
Q: Are there any photographers that you like? How do you see photography?
A: Zhangjingna, Laurent Hini, Chrisman Studios are three photographers that I really like. I think that as a wedding photographer, the most important thing that you should be able to do is capture all those fleeting images. In order to accomplish this task, a photographer must have the ability to predict, on top of it is important to focus on emotions and lighting, a photograph without good lighting is as obvious as a blank piece of paper. There isn’t anyone I particularly look up to, because I don’t want to be tied down with certain schools of thought. In principal, works that capture my attention are ones with creativity, good lighting, and photographs with different perspectives.
Q: You’ve photographed many weddings, which ones are the most impressionable?
A: As a wedding photographer, we always want to spread the happiness of wedding to more people, so when it comes to impressionable weddings, there are actually a lot of them, because anything regarding love in any form has its own story. Here are a few works for you.
Sometimes we scratch our heads wondering how a little piece of photograph retain such strong presence of emotions. It is a difficult concept, yet it is the philosophy of this photographer, Cheyu, who firmly believes a photographer has to understand what is beautiful in order to produce beautiful works.
Our pick of the day is one photograph of a bride arriving from her bridal car. In this Chinese styled wedding, the
entrance was decorated with coloured frills, with the bride dressed in white under a black umbrella, and smoke visible under the streaks of sun rays, its composition presents us with an alluring picture. Hope you’ve enjoyed today’s interview and once again thank you Cheyu for sharing your work with us!
