From winters with snow capped mountains to summers filled with beautiful flowers and green scenery, Switzerland is a perfect background to any wedding or pre-wedding shoot. Today we are joined by Switzerland wedding photographer – Nora Mancini from Nora Photography who has many years of experience capturing the picturesque landscape that Switzerland has to offer.
Q1: How many weddings have you experienced? What was your favourite wedding?
I’ve experienced approximately 200 weddings. My favourite wedding was probably one I shot in Egypt. It was a romantic elopement on the beach in Sharm el Sheikh at sunset. I have loved the whole experience as I worked with the wedding planner and the local staff for a couple of days, building the ceremony arch, preparing all the details and laughing about me taking photos of a dessert table under full sun and about 45 degrees as quick as possible before it was melted!! The bride walked in on bare feet and the colours of the sand and Tiran island in front of us was pink and it all felt very romantic.
Q2: To have my wedding in Switzerland, do you have any suggestions?
I would suggest to research well the location. Most places are easy to reach in Switzerland. No place is remote as we have very reliable public transport. There are many venues facing our beautiful lakes – spring/summer are perfect for these locations. Alternatively, we have a lot of spectacular mountains locations such as Zermatt, Gstad, Davos and more. Mountains are gorgeous in summer and winter with the snow and the scenery is so amazing for wedding photos. What kind of things should I consider? Consider booking well in advance, especially if you are looking for a weekend event – we are a small country and the best services and locations tend to get booked up quickly.
Q3: How’s the weather in Switzerland year round?
We pretty much have the typical 4 season weather. Winter is cold and often snowy, Spring is beautiful and full of flowers. Summer can be warm and the scenery is very green but of course we can also have summer showers sometimes. Fall is often wet but mostly in November. Generally speaking, September and October are very good months. What are the best months of the year to have a pre-wedding shoot in Switzerland? I would suggest April – October and January – March…pretty much all year around! :-) Any Recommendations on where to go? Cities are beautiful and have a lot of history and character such as Zurich, Bern and Lausanne. My favourite region for pre-wedding shoots are the Lavaux vineyards and Chateaux de Chillon by Lake Geneva. We have mountains everywhere and the photos will always have snowcapped peaks in the background.
Q4: What’s the best places to go in Switzerland for my honeymoon?
Everywhere! I would visit Lucern lake and the surrounding mountains, Bern and Geneva lake. You can also ski in winter and go to the many thermal baths afterwards or you can hike and sip wine in the sun in summertime.
Q5: How much does it normally cost to hire a wedding photographer in Switzerland?
It very much depends. There are new photographers with lower rates as they are looking to build their portfolio and more professional photographers that can charge quite a bit. I would say for wedding photography, expect anything between CHF 2000 and CHF 6000.
I think is very important in Switzerland to hire a photographer that is experienced and comfortable shooting with natural light and that can capture the beauty of the country.
