Planning a destination wedding overseas? Well, the idea jetting off to an exotic location with your beloved for saying ‘I do’ sounds just too irresistible to pass. But at the same time, there is an endless list of practicalities that needs consideration if your want to make your dream wedding come true. As such, taking help from a local expert on the ground can be of great help. Jessica Hubert from Mon Amour Events is a renowned Cape Town wedding planner who specializes in arranging outstanding nuptials abroad. Today, La Bride is going to share some amazing insights from the expert so you can better understand the difficulties of planning a wedding abroad and how to overcome them.
Q: Hi Jessica, So glad we get to know more about you! Tell us about how you got your start wedding planning and what keeps you going?
A: Ever since I started assisting with wedding’s to now coordinating my own weddings it’s always been the most emotional when my brides walk down the aisle it’s everything we have been planning towards and the day has FINALLY arrived!! YAY
I am excited with my brides and I can honestly feel the excitement and anxiousness for them, and this makes me look forward to each wedding and every new couple’s adventure that I get to be a part of!
Q: You say “Love stories make my heart skip a beat and sharing in a couple’s joy on their wedding day, is the cherry on the wedding cake! “ Do you have a favorite story from working with a client?
A: All my client’s stories are amazing whether they live abroad and we have endless Skype Calls, emails and texts to the times that we get to meet before the wedding. Of course it’s great having my couple’s based in Cape Town South Africa but thats why I love working with couple’s abroad as I know exactly what they might be worried about and have their best interests at heart.
I always tell my bride’s I want to get in your wedding brain as I call it, so that I know exactly what they dream and want for their special day and my favourite part is having all of the months of planning arrive to their day of celebration. I also think it’s always so fun making brides realise what they actually want or what suits their style more than they even thought it would.
Being engaged myself I know what my brides feel like and I try make it the most memorable experience possible!
Q: What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from planning weddings? Is there any advice you would pass a long to couples just starting to plan their wedding?
A: Okey this might seem very cheesy but get a WEDDING PLANNER! You will honestly never look back… make sure that your planner has your best interests at heart and will make sure that your vision speaks volumes on the day… guests need to arrive and be like WOW this is totally them.
Keep calm and let your planner do the work, and make sure you get all the small things out of the way early so that you can just relax and enjoy your bridal experience.
Q: How would you describe your personal style? Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
A: Modern, Classic, Elegant and Romantic …… but personally I feel that me as a wedding planner needs to envision the couple’s style and not only just push on my own style so I am very open to different looks and feels.
The trends that I LOVE are the almost festival feel for pre-dinner or we call pre-drinks in SA. The combination of various entertainment, food stations, and drink stations that guests can wonder over to throughout the wedding. Oh and not to forget I just think it’s super special when the couple gets to bond and be with their guests during the pre-drinks especially because the bridal couple don’t get as much time during the night to do so, so why not give them a chance to just breath and enjoy their guests before they go off for photographs.
A destination wedding can truly give you some unforgettable memories for life if you plan it right. We hope this interview with Jessica Hubert will steer you in the right direction.
